Who runs this site

Arthur Van de Velde (avelde)

Arthur Van de Velde is responsible for this website and for the data described below. Write to the address above to ask what is stored about your licence, or to have it corrected or deleted.

Your films and results never leave your computer

All analysis runs locally on your Mac. No film, image, file name, folder path, detected event or result is ever sent anywhere. Error reports are written to a folder on your own Mac (Help → Show log files) and are only shared if you choose to send one.

What the program does send

The program contacts one server, licence.avelde.ch, for two purposes.

Usage counts

When the program starts and when an analysis finishes, it reports:

WhatWhy
Your licence keyTo know which customer the counts belong to.
A machine identifier: a one-way hash of the computer's hardware ID To count how many computers use a licence. It cannot be turned back into a serial number or computer name.
The program versionTo know which versions are in use.
For an analysis: the number of frames, how long it took, and whether it finished or failedTo see how much the program is used and whether it runs reliably.

The program does not send a location. The server derives an approximate one from the connection itself: the city, region and country, the name of the network (for example your university's), and coordinates rounded to about 10 km. Your IP address is used for that and not stored.

Reports wait on your Mac if the server cannot be reached, and are sent later. They never delay or block the program. If you would rather not send usage counts, write to us and we will issue a licence with reporting turned off.

Licence renewal

If your licence is set to renew itself, the program sends your licence key and the same machine identifier when it asks for a new licence. Otherwise renewals arrive by email, and nothing is sent for them.

Where it is stored, and for how long

Usage counts are stored as monthly totals per computer, on the infrastructure of Cloudflare, which provides the server. They are kept for 24 months and then deleted, or earlier on request.

This website

This site sets no cookies, has no analytics or trackers, and loads nothing from other services. Its one script is served from this site and only draws the illustration. If you switch between light and dark, that choice is remembered in your own browser and never sent anywhere. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, processes connection data to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse; we do not use that data for anything else.

The software

The Phagocytosis Analyzer is licensed, not sold; using it requires a licence from avelde, on the terms of the licence agreement. It includes open-source components, used under their own licences.

It is a research tool. Its results are proposals for a person to review, not a substitute for that review.
